Clinical presentation:Perimenopausal woman with family history of colon cancer presented for mammography screening. On examination, no abnormality was detected.

Case summary:

Perimenopausal woman with increased risk of developing breast cancer presented for mammography screening. Diagnosed as typically benign calcifications seen in both breasts, BI-RADS 2 on imaging.

Learning points:



  • Round calcifications in diffuse distribution are typically benign calcifications seen in fibrocystic changes and adenosis. Round calcifications that form in the cystically dilated acini of the TDLU are called acinar or lobular calcifications.
