Breast imaging – Mammography technique – Pitfalls in techniques of mammography – Inadequate breast compression | |
If the breast is not compressed enough (less than 7 kg), there will be insufficient reduction in tissue thickness to provide diagnostically acceptable image contrast.
Probable cause – inadequate breast compression
Inadequate breast compression may occur if the breast slips out of the compression paddle. A retroareolar lesion may not be well delineated.
Rectification
- Ensure adequate breast compression on CC view to delineate isodense opacity in the retroareolar region.
- Ensure that the breast does not slip out.
