Case summary:

Perimenopausal woman with average risk of developing breast cancer presented for mammography screening. Diagnosed as typically benign, round, rim, and rod-like calcifications seen in diffuse distribution in both breasts, BI-RADS 2 on imaging.

Learning points:


  • Breast parenchymal calcifications seen in both breasts and scattered in all quadrants in diffuse distribution indicate benign process. These calcifications have remained stable on follow-up mammograms and can be ignored.
