Case summary:

Premenopausal woman presented with left mastalgia. Diagnosed as BI-RADS 1 on imaging.

Learning points:

  • Mastalgia is the commonest presentation in premenopausal women and is a component of fibrocystic changes of the breast. The breast pain may be cyclical, usually premenstrual, or may be continuous. It is unilateral or in both the breasts. Fibrocystic changes of the breast progress through the stage of mastalgia followed by breast lumps and finally regression in the postmenopausal stage.
