Breast imaging – Breast ultrasound – Limitations

Ultrasound does not replace mammography as a screening tool.
Breast calcifications that may be diagnostic of DCIS are not visible on ultrasound.
The sensitivity and specificity of ultrasound are operator-dependent. Trained and experienced breast-imaging sonologists are important to ensure diagnostic accuracy.
