Indication
The axillary tail view (previously known as the Cleopatra view) is used to isolate a lesion in the tail of the breast. The view is taken primarily to confirm the location of the lesion in the tail of the breast.

Steps to obtain the axillary tail view

Proceed to axillary tail view after an MLO view has been obtained.
Rotate the machine gantry slightly and adjust it until it is parallel to the tail of the breast.
The edge of the detector should be along the edge of the chest wall so that only the lateral tissues are included in the field of view and only the tail of the breast is under compression.

An optimal axillary view clearly displays the most lateral portion of the breast including the axillary tail in a more anteroposterior direction.
