Breast pathology – Histopathology of the breast – Specimen transport | |
- All specimens for histopathology other than tissues for frozen section should be transported in 10% neutral-buffered formalin.
- This is important to ensure preservation of tissue morphology, especially mitotic figures, and all the antigens and biomarkers in tumour tissue.
- The container used to transport should be of a size suitable for the size of the specimen.
- The volume of formalin in the container should be enough to submerge the entire specimen in formalin.
