Breast pathology – Cytopathology of the breast – Fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) procedure – Getting ready

  

  1. Before proceeding for FNAC, go through the clinical records and note the history, clinical examination findings, and ultrasound and mammography results, if available.
  2. Explain the procedure to the woman and talk to her about the implications of the test results.
  3. Inform the woman that the breast may feel a little sore for a short period afterwards. Local anaesthesia is not usually necessary.
  4. Take a written consent from the woman for the procedure.
