    After application of acetic acid: The columnar epithelium turns dense acetowhite, with raised margins and an irregular surface. There is contact bleeding from the surface.

  • Remarks: Dense acetowhite areas with surface irregularity are visible on the columnar epithelium. On visual examination, it often becomes difficult to identify the columnar epithelium, because the epithelium loses its characteristic features due to the presence of the growth. However, the dense acetowhite area, raised margins, irregular surface, and contact bleeding indicate cancer.
