VIA procedure – Examination after application of 5% acetic acid – Abnormal features – Surface of acetowhite area

Most acetowhite areas have a smooth surface. Condylomata may have a pitted surface appearance. Invasive cancer should be suspected when there is a large dense acetowhite area with an irregular surface and contact bleeding. An obvious growth or ulcer should always be diagnosed as suspicious of invasive cancer on VIA.
