VIA procedure – Examination after application of 5% acetic acid – Normal features – Columnar epithelium | |
Normal columnar epithelium is characterized by its red colour and velvety appearance. After application of acetic acid, the granular surface of the epithelium becomes prominent. Normal columnar epithelium blanches for a few seconds and temporarily appears white immediately after application of acetic acid. The original red colour of the epithelium is regained after a few seconds.
