VIA procedure – Examination after application of 5% acetic acid – Normal features – Columnar epithelium

  

Normal columnar epithelium is characterized by its red colour and velvety appearance. After application of acetic acid, the granular surface of the epithelium becomes prominent. Normal columnar epithelium blanches for a few seconds and temporarily appears white immediately after application of acetic acid. The original red colour of the epithelium is regained after a few seconds.
