  • Before application of acetic acid: The central bright red velvety area is the columnar epithelium. The smooth pink squamous epithelium can be seen at the periphery.

    After application of acetic acid: The granular appearance of the columnar epithelium becomes prominent.

  • Remarks: The transformation zone (TZ) is just at the periphery of the ectropion. The TZ has just started forming. The treatment of such cases by thermal ablation often requires multiple applications of the probe to cover the ectropion as well as the TZ.
