Before application of acetic acid: Large ectropion seen as a bright red patch around the external os.

Cervix before application of acetic acid:

Ectropion

After application of acetic acid: The granular surface of the columnar epithelium is prominent. Transparent white areas are due to metaplasia.

Histopathology: Not done

Remarks: Metaplastic epithelium may be acetowhite. However, the acetowhitening is thin, is transparent, and does not have any definite margins, as in this case.
