After application of acetic acid: Acetic acid helps to clean the menstrual blood. The SCJ is fully visible close to the external os. The ectocervix is covered by mature squamous epithelium. No acetowhite area.

Remarks: VIA can be performed during menstruation if the bleeding is not excessive. However, treatment is best avoided during menstruation.
