Before application of acetic acid: Red granular columnar epithelium is visible on the ectocervix.

Cervix before application of acetic acid:

Ectropion

After application of acetic acid: No acetowhite area on the cervix. A mucus plug is seen at the external os.

Histopathology: Not done

Remarks: The small bleeding points seen on the columnar epithelium are due to injury caused by a cotton swab during application of acetic acid. The columnar epithelium is fragile and is easily prone to trauma.
