  • Before application of acetic acid: Lax vaginal walls can be seen bulging between the speculum blades, preventing adequate exposure of the cervix.

  • Remarks: Adequate exposure of the cervix can be obtained by slipping a non-lubricated condom or the finger of a large glove (with its end cut off) over the speculum blades.
