  • Before application of acetic acid: Multiple nabothian cysts are visible as pearly white blisters on the ectocervix.

    After application of acetic acid: The SCJ is fully visible. Diffuse acetowhite epithelium is seen in the TZ on the anterior lip, with tongue-shaped projections towards the external os.

  • Remarks: The presence of nabothian cysts and a thin acetowhite area with tongue-shaped projections towards the external os indicates squamous metaplasia. Any acetowhite area without a distinct margin should be considered as VIA-negative.
