  • Before application of acetic acid: Parous cervix. No abnormal discharge is seen.

  • Cervix before application of acetic acid:  

  • After application of acetic acid: The SCJ is fully visible. A large acetowhite area with well-defined margins is seen on the anterior lip. The lesion close to the external os at the 10–2 o’clock position is denser than the rest of the acetowhite area, which is visible on both the anterior and posterior lips.

  • After application of Lugol’s iodine: The dense acetowhite area appears bright mustard yellow.

  • Remarks: The presence of a dense acetowhite area within a large thin acetowhite area always indicates the presence of high-grade disease in the dense acetowhite part.
