Before application of acetic acid: The cervix appears hypertrophied. No abnormal discharge is seen.

After application of acetic acid: The SCJ is fully visible. A thin acetowhite area with indistinct margins is seen at the 12 o’clock position.

Remarks: The thin acetowhite area with diffuse indistinct margins is suggestive of squamous metaplasia. When in doubt, it is better to give a VIA-positive diagnosis.
