  • Case: 133

  • Before application of acetic acid: Large ectropion covered with normal mucoid discharge.

  • Cervix before application of acetic acid:
  • Ectropion

After application of acetic acid: The granular texture of normal columnar epithelium is prominent. A transparent acetowhite area with sharp angular margins is seen attached to the SCJ.

After application of acetic acid: On the posterior lip, a thin acetowhite area with a smooth sharp margin and attached to the SCJ is seen.

  • Cervix after application of acetic acid:
    • Squamocolumnar junction visibility:
    • Squamocolumnar junction location:
    • Acetowhite area:
      • If present, description of acetowhite area:
        • Colour:
        • Margin:
        • Surface:
        • Location:
        • Size:

  • VIA category:

  • Determined eligibility for ablative treatment:

  • Histopathology: Posterior lip: LSIL-CIN1; Anterior lip: LSIL-HPV changes

  • Remarks: Treatment by thermal ablation using multiple overlapping applications of the probe is preferred to cryotherapy, because the acetowhite area lies at the periphery of a large ectropion and may be difficult to cover by the largest cryotherapy probe.
