  • Before application of acetic acid: Multiparous cervix. A nabothian cyst is present on the posterior lip at the 7 oíclock position.

    After application of acetic acid: The SCJ is fully visible. Diffuse acetowhite areas in the TZ tend to blend with the surrounding mature pink squamous epithelium.

  • Remarks: Diffuse acetowhite areas with indistinct margins are categorized as VIA-negative. Such features are due to squamous metaplasia. The metaplastic epithelium is part of the transformation zone.
