  • Before application of acetic acid: The central red patch is columnar epithelium, surrounded by pink mature squamous epithelium.

  • After application of acetic acid: The SCJ is fully visible. A dense acetowhite area attached to the SCJ is present at the 10–2 o’clock position.

  • After application of Lugol’s iodine: The abnormal area does not stain with Lugol’s iodine and appears mustard yellow.

  • Remarks: After application of Lugol’s iodine, the bright mustard yellow colour of the abnormal epithelium clearly demarcates the area to be treated.
