  • Before application of acetic acid: The ectocervix is covered by mature squamous epithelium, which appears pink. No abnormal discharge is seen.

  • Cervix before application of acetic acid:  

  • After application of acetic acid: The SCJ is not visible. A thin acetowhite area with sharp margins is present at the 12 o’clock position with the inner margin extending into the endocervical canal.

  • After application of Lugol’s iodine: The acetowhite area does not stain with Lugol’s iodine and appears as a distinct yellow lesion.

  • Determined eligibility for ablative treatment:  

  • Histopathology: LSIL-CIN1

  • Remarks: The inner margin of the lesion extends into the endocervical canal. Such lesions, although they are small, should not be treated by ablation, because there may be severe disease inside the endocervical canal.
