After application of acetic acid: A thin acetowhite area attached to the SCJ is seen on the anterior lip at the 12–2 o’clock position. An acetowhite area with indistinct margins is present at the 6 o’clock position.

After application of Lugol’s iodine: The margins of the lesions become prominent because of the colour contrast.

Determined eligibility for ablative treatment:

Histopathology: LSIL-CIN1

Remarks: Margins of thin acetowhite areas may not always be prominent and may be difficult to assess during treatment. Application of Lugol’s iodine helps by providing a sharp colour contrast between the normal epithelium (mahogany or brown) and the abnormal epithelium (yellow), which demarcates the area to be treated.
