Interpretation of VIA – Positive – CTZ appearing acetowhite | |
Congenital transformation zone (CTZ) appearing acetowhite:
Although the CTZ is a physiological condition, it is difficult to correctly diagnose on VIA and should be considered as VIA-positive. After application of acetic acid, the CTZ appears as an extensive oblong (lozenge-shaped) thin acetowhite area on the cervix. The lesion can usually be seen extending from the anterior and posterior lips of the cervix to the vaginal fornices. The margins of the lesion are well defined but may often be irregular.
