VIA procedure – Examination before application of acetic acid – Normal findings on speculum examination – Menstrual bleeding

During menstruation, blood may be seen coming out through the external os. The blood should be cleaned with normal saline before examining the cervix. However, VIA can be difficult in the presence of heavy bleeding.

The next section discusses how nabothian cysts appear on speculum examination.
