Atypia of repair
After injury, the squamous epithelium with a preserved structure undergoes changes. The nuclei are uniform in shape and size, the chromatin is aggregated, the epithelium is infiltrated with migrating inflammatory cells, mitotic figures are normal and confined to the basal and parabasal cells. Superficial cells are not abnormal but the maturation id delayed. (see also: repair)
