Abnormalities of squamous cells
The Bethesda System 2001: under this expression are grouped morphologic changes of squamous cells, which differ from changes due to inflammatory and reactive conditions.
They are:
- Atypical squamous cells (ASC) of undetermined significance (ASC-US) or Atypical squamous cells cannot exclude high grade intraepithelial lesion (ASC-H),
- Low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL),
- High grade intraepithelial lesion (HSIL),
- Squamous cell carcinoma.
