Professor Ashrafun Nessa, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital, Bangladesh, explains the challenges of addressing cervical cancer, responsible for one quarter of cancer deaths in Bangladesh, as well as how the government is trying to tackle the disease and how IARC and the Screening Group is helping with the project.

The Screening Group (SCR) enjoyed spending time exchanging ideas about current and future EDP projects with our colleagues from the Prevention and Implementation Group (PRI).

Dr Hamza Rouabah spent 4 weeks with the Screening Group to analyse a database from a collaborator in Thailand. The topic of the work is the determinants of liver cancer, apart from hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus infection. The work is based on responses to questionnaires on lifestyle, diet, alcohol intake, and laboratory measurements.

In Pune city, Maharashtra, India, an innovative approach is being taken to providing cervical cancer screening to women who otherwise would not get access to screening: The Screening Group supports the Prayas screening programme.
