Oral manifestations of systemic diseases
Several systemic diseases manifest themselves in the oral cavity. These lesions can precede the symptoms and signs of systemic disease or can coexist with it. Clinicians who are not aware of these lesions might miss them. Some of these are non-specific and some are specific. Non-specific conditions like xerostomia, periodontal diseases, premature bone loss, etc., are seen in patients with atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, chronic renal failure and cerebrovascular accidents. Some of these systemic diseases and their associated oral manifestations are described below.
