Actinomyces Anaerobic filamentous bacteria, noted especially in IUD users. They form dense basophilic or brownish balls or irregular aggregates, in which filaments and small grains may be seen. Although inflammation is often present, these bacteria are rarely responsible for significant disease. (See also: Actinomycosis) Cytopathology atlas
