Follicular cervicitis Lymphofollicular cervicitis is a form of chronic cervicitis histologically characterized by the presence of a dense lymphoid infiltration of the subepithelial connective tissue in which a follicular organisation is clearly visible (germinal centres with large lymphoid cells, macrophages and follicular dendritic cells). Frequently seen in asymptomatic woman with a normal cervix. Must be distinguished from lymphoma, a very rare primitive tumour of uterine cervix. In cervical smears, follicular cervicitis is detected by areas with lymphoid cels of different sizes and, in rare zones, elements suggesting centro-follicular structures.
