Dr Sauvaget visited Jichi University to collaborate on the impact of the low vaccination uptake in Japan on health economics.

Project: Evaluation of Colorectal Cancer Screening in Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran

The enrolment of first participants of this population-based pilot demonstration project of colorectal cancer screening using iFOBT started in the different primary health centers in the Tehran region.

Training course on planning and implementing cancer control programmes, Nanning, China

The Screening Group organized this second training course in collaboration with the Cancer Institute/Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CICAMS) for the ASEAN countries, with participants from Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Nepal, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Viet Nam.

Mr Eric Lucas participated in an expert meeting at NCDC to provide technical advice about how to set up a breast, cervical, and colorectal electronic cancer screening registry in Georgia.

Visit of Dr Deborah Watson-Jones, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), Mwanza, Tanzania, and Dr Aimee Kreimer, National Cancer Institute (NCI), Rockville, USA

Dr Watson-Jones and Dr Kreimer visited the Screening Group to present the DORIS trial evaluating a single dose of bi- and 9-valent HPV vaccines and to work on an immune bridging study between IARC/NCI and DORIS.

Video: A community-based breast cancer screening project in Kerala, Trivandrum, India

In India, the Screening Group is conducting research to better understand the impact of screening with clinical breast examination on early-stage detection of breast cancer in Kerala. Watch video.

Video: HPV vaccines and fighting cervical cancer in India

The Screening Group is conducting research to better understand the causes of cancer and to evaluate the most appropriate prevention strategies, diagnostic tools, and treatments to control the disease. In Pune district in Maharashtra, IARC is working closely with national institutions to evaluate the efficacy of fewer than three doses of HPV vaccine in protecting women against cervical cancer. IARC marked the International Day of Rural Women with a short video showcasing one of these research projects under way in rural India. Watch video.
