 Postdoctoral internship: Dr Sankhadeep Dutta01/05/2018 – 31/05/2018Dr Dutta completed a 3-month internship within the Screening Group to develop a sub-study protocol to assess the type-specific HPV antibody titres and the immune memory at 10 years post-vaccination in the different dose cohorts of the ongoing IARC-India HPV vaccine study. |
 New publication: “Are two doses of human papillomavirus vaccine sufficient for girls aged 15–18 years? Results from a cohort study in India”30/04/2018New findings from a study, published in the journal Papilloma Research, show that two doses of HPV vaccine are as efficacious as three doses in girls aged 15–18 years. Earlier findings from this trial, contributed to the WHO Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Vaccination’s 2014 recommendation of a two-dose HPV vaccine schedule for adolescent girls younger than 15 years. Based on the new findings, the current two-dose recommendation may be revised and extended to girls up to age 18 years. View the publication. |

 Meeting: “European cancer screening programmes: monitoring activities", Ispra, Italy12/04/2018Dr Basu attended a meeting that was held at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) to discuss cancer screening monitoring in the European Union. |
 Training course in cervical cancer screening and treatment by thermocoagulation, Dakar, Senegal09/04/2018 – 20/04/2018The Screening Group organized a training course at the Gaspard Kamara district hospital in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the “Servir le Sénégal” Foundation to train the medical providers involved in the Care4Afrique project. Dr Sauvaget attended as a faculty member. |
 New publication: “Can a single dose of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine prevent cervical cancer? Early findings from an Indian study”06/04/2018A study led by the Screening Group is comparing the effectiveness of a single dose of HPV vaccine versus three or two doses to protect against persistent HPV infection, which is the necessary cause of cervical cancer. Early findings from this multicentre trial in India indicated that a single dose of quadrivalent HPV vaccine generated robust antibody response and provided similar protection against HPV16 and HPV18 persistent infections as immunization based on the three- or two-dose vaccine schedules.
