Postdoctoral Fellowships: Mosquera Metcalfe

Dr Isabel Mosquera, PhD in Public Health at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), has recently joined the Screening Group at IARC as a postdoctoral fellow. Isabel will be involved in the review of interventions to reduce health inequalities in cervical cancer screening.

Continuing Professional Development Trainee: Mrs Xuelia Zhao

Dr Xuelian Zhao, PhD in Peking Union Medical College (PUMC), from National Cancer Center/Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (NCC/CHCAMS), joined the Screening Group for 6 months and will be involved mainly in the analysis of cervical cancer screening and management data in China in collaboration with Dr Fanguhi Zhao.

Workshop on Early detection of cervical and breast cancer in Kolkata, India – 08/09/2019

New publication: Cancer Screening in Five Continents (CanScreen5) – a project designed to improve the quality of cancer screening programmes

This new article, published in the 6th edition of the annual Cancer Control 2019, presented the new IARC initiative, CanScreen5 platform to uniformly collect, analyse, store and disseminate information on characteristics and performance of cancer screening pogrammes. This new initiative will impress upon the programme managers the value of monitoring and quality improvement of cancer screening programmes and also support capacity-building in this area.View the article and visit the CanScreen5 platform.

New publication: Human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA and mRNA primary cervical cancer screening: Evaluation and triaging options for HPV-positive women

The Screening Group is delighted to present the findings of this study which aimed to determine the clinical performance of HPV mRNA compared with HPV DNA testing in North Eastern Thailand in the setting of the cervical cancer screening national program. The test characteristics of HPV DNA test and HPV mRNA test for primary screening were comparable. View the article.

Dr Partha Basu attended the Mission organized by the WHO (EMRO) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Palestine to improve cancer care including breast cancer early detection in Palestine.
