Third CICAMS-IARC joint training course on cancer prevention and control, Shenzhen, China

The Screening Group co-organized this third training course in collaboration with the Cancer Institute/Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CICAMS) for the ASEAN countries, with 41 attendees and faculty members from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam.

Conference: AORTIC conference, Maputo, Mozambique

Dr Andre Carvalho and Dr Richard Muwonge participated to the 12th AORTIC Conference focused on Innovation, Strategies, Implementation regarding Cancer in Africa. They presented respectively a research proposal "African Breast Cancer - Interventions on Disparities in Outcomes (ABC-iDO)" and the information needs for monitoring and evaluating cancer screening programs in Africa.

UICC Technical Fellowship: Dr Huang Yubei, Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital, Tianjin, China

Dr Huang Yubei visited the Screening Group to complete the data analysis and manuscript preparation for the cross-sectional studies on the associations between cancer screening beliefs, knowledge, mental health, and behaviors.

Launch of IARC Learning portal

The Education and Training Group has launched the IARC Learning portal, an online space that hosts learning resources to support the professional development of cancer researchers and health professionals. The IARC Learning portal is organized around several thematic platforms, like cancer prevention and early detection developed in collaboration with the Screening Group. You will find a large variety of freely accessible resources: self-paced modules, manuals and guidelines, lectures and webinars, visual charts, and materials for trainers.

New publication: Current status of human papillomavirus vaccination in India's cervical cancer prevention efforts

The Screening Group is delighted to present the new policy review article detailing the current status of vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV) in India’s cervical cancer prevention published in The Lancet Oncology. The article concludes that a combination of efficient screening programmes and HPV vaccination programmes will be highly conducive to the local and global elimination of cervical cancer.

The Lancet Oncology published a new editorial in the November 2019 issues with a high focus on cervical cancer elimination: Disparities that persist in terms of access to vaccination and screening will delay worldwide elimination. Editors strongly encourage those in positions of influence to use all tools at their disposal to achieve this.
