Chemiluminescent illumination
Chemiluminescent illumination is used as a diagnostic aid in the detection of oral precancers and cancers. In this technique, chemiluminescent light is used to visualize the oral cavity after rinsing the mouth with 1% dilute acetic acid. This highlight dysplastic white lesions as acetowhite regions. Chemiluminescent light improves the identification, evaluation and monitoring of white oral mucosal lesions. However its usefulness in discriminating benign, inflammatory, potentially malignant or malignant oral lesion remains uncertain . This can be used as an adjunct following standard visual examination to provide additional information.
