Cervical cancer control in India


'Cervical Cancer Control in India' is an e-learning course created by ecancer and developed in collaboration with Indian experts specialising in gynaecological cancers and supported by the National Cancer Grid, India. The following institutions participated in the development of the contents:
  • Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai
  • International Agency for Research on Cancer, Lyon
  • and Valavadi Narayanswamy Cancer Centre, Coimbatore
These 3 modules are for healthcare professionals working in the Indian setting. This educational resource was published in February 2019.

First elearning module: Cervical Cancer Control in India: HPV Screening and Vaccination



By the end of this module trainees should be able to:
  • Describe the types of HPV vaccination available for protection against cervical cancer
  • Describe the cervical cancer screening methods available to women in India
  • Understand the most effective scheduling for HPV vaccinations and screening
  • Define a VIA test and how to perform it


Second elearning module: Cervical Cancer Control in India: Diagnosis and Treatment



By the end of this module trainees should be able to:
  • Describe the diagnostic tests available for detecting pre-cancer and cancer of the cervix
  • Describe the treatment options available
  • Understand the FIGO cancer staging system for cervical cancer
  • Describe the treatment options for advanced cervical cancer
  • Define the 'screen and treat' approach


Third elearning module: Cervical Cancer Control in India: Palliative Care



By the end of this module trainees should be able to:
  • Define the essential components of palliative care
  • Describe the role of health workers in a palliative care setting
  • Describe the roles and responsabilities of the family and how they differ from health workers
  • Define the principles of a good death
  • Implement the WHO analgesic ladder to promote effective pain management
