Training: Training for Pathology Laboratory Technicians regarding specimen handling and processing of breast core biopsy and Fine needle Aspiration Cytology with special emphasis on cell block preparation and immunocytochemistry31/01/2022 – 02/02/2022This course was organized in collaboration with Cachar Cancer Hospital and research centre, to improve skills of the 16 staffs involved in the new IARC project, Accelerating Breast Cancer early DEtection in India (ABCDE-India). This training focussed in breast specimen handling and staining for core-biopsy and cytology, to learn to prepare, process and stain the FNAC sample appropriately, to learn to prepare cell block from aspirated contents from breast lesion and improve their skills in preparing immunohistochemistry (IHC) slides from tissue blocks and immunocytochemistry slides from cell blocks. Training course was a mixed of virtual and face to face sessions. |
Last live session of CanScreen5 Train the Trainers learning programme for Latin American countries09/12/2021The CanScreen5 Train the Trainers learning programme for Latin American countries has held its fifth live session. This session included a keynote lecture from Dr Ben Anderson, from the World Health Organization, on the Global Breast Cancer Initiative. The participants also reviewed the questionnaire on barriers to cancer screening that will complement the qualitative and quantitative information on cancer screening that they collect. All this information will allow the preparation of a road map to improve cancer screening for each of the countries involved in the training, namely Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala and Uruguay. This live session is the last in the three trainings conducted in Latin America and the Caribbean, and in which 27 countries have participated overall.

Third live session of CanScreen5 Train the Trainers learning programme for Latin American countries11/11/2021The CanScreen5 Train the Trainers learning programme for Latin American countries has held its third live session. This session included a keynote lecture from Dr Raúl Murillo, from the Centro Javeriano de Oncología in Colombia, on a consensus on indicators for cervical cancer screening in Latin America. The eighteen participants from Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala and Uruguay also discussed the cancer control measures in place in their countries. Presentation of CanScreen5 Train the Trainers learning programme to Latin American countries28/09/2021The CanScreen5 Train the Trainers learning programme has been presented to Latin American countries and will start this week. This will be the fourth training within the CanScreen5 project and so far 97 representatives from 39 countries have participated in a facilitated module blending online modules and live sessions. Thirty one countries have already submitted data on their cancer screening and it is being progressively uploaded on the CanScreen5 website after validation. The self-paced learning programme is publicly available in English and Russian, and under development in Spanish and French. |
Cervical cancer elimination initiative - Knowledge Repository10/09/2021WHO launched a publicly accessible web-based platform, the knowledge repository, intended to provide one-stop access to documents and tools relevant to support the implementation of the Global strategy to accelerate the elimination of cervical cancer as a public health problem. The repository brings together knowledge elements developed by WHO, UN Agencies and other intergovernmental organizations, or by their collaborative efforts with other partners.

Training course: IARC BELMED Training Course, Minsk, Republic of Belarus09/10/2019 – 11/10/2019Dr Vitaly Smelov and Andre Carvalho participated in this course which is part of a joint programme funded by the European Union on prevention of non-communicable diseases, promotion of healthy lifestyle and support to modernization of the health system in Belarus (BELMED). It is a coordinated project between different UN organizations (UNDP, WHO, UNICEF, UNFPA and IARC), in which IARC participates in the implementation of a national breast cancer screening program in Belarus.

The training programme was organized to provide technical support for the pilot cervical cancer screening programme “Proyecto Prevenir Juntos” in Ecuador, which is funded by the International Foundation. FIBUSPAM plans to roll out the screening programme subsequent to the training of their clinicians and nurses by IARC and INEN. |
