New publication: Cognitions and behaviours of general practitioners in France regarding HPV vaccination: A theory-based systematic review

13/11/2020
Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination is safe and efficacious to prevent persistent HPV infection, precancerous anogenital lesions and cervical cancer. However, in countries where vaccination programmes are implemented outside of schools, such as France, reaching high HPV vaccination coverage of the target population is challenging. Like in other countries, the HPV vaccination decision of French parents is driven by the recommendations of their general practitioners (GPs). GPs are then key elements to target if we would like to improve uptake of the HPV vaccination in France. To provide a more comprehensive overview of French GPs’ cognitions and behaviour regarding HPV vaccination, Dr Villain and collaborators have used an innovative approach. They conducted a systematic review of all the available evidence in France using the a reasoned action approach (RAA) theory to (i) report GPs’ cognitions and beliefs, and (ii) examine the impacts of these cognitions on GPs’ behaviours. The methods used and the results are reported in the paper. View the article
