Inflammation
Physiological reaction responsible for the presence in cervical smears of:
- a significant population of inflammatory cells,
- morphological alterations, non specific or specific (virus) of epithelial cells,
- sometimes by the presence of one or more well identified pathogenic agents (bacteria, parasites …),
- a dirty background. (see also: cervicitis)
